Ciprian Ciucu is the new mayor general of Bucharest
Ciprian Ciucu has been elected as the new Mayor of Bucharest, winning around 36% of the vote in a highly anticipated election. He replaces Nicușor Dan, the former mayor who became President of Romania earlier this year, in May. Anca Alexandrescu finished second with nearly 22%, followed by Daniel Băluță with approximately 20.5%.
Ciucu’s victory marks a significant political shift in the capital. Supported by a center-right coalition, he ran a campaign focused on infrastructure development, traffic reduction, heating system modernization and digitalization. He emphasized the need for a more efficient municipal administration and a coherent strategy for the capital’s long-term development.
His main priorities include improving public transportation, reducing congestion, accelerating investments in mobility infrastructure, expanding green spaces and restructuring municipal companies. Ciucu also expressed his intention to work closely with the national government and coalition partners to secure EU funding and launch major urban mobility projects.
His election opens a new chapter for Bucharest, at a time when the city is in strong need of stability, investment and clear administrative leadership.
