Sameday Acquires Major Courier Company in Romania
Sameday, the courier company owned by the eMAG group, has acquired Cargus, one of the largest players in Romania’s courier market.
According to Ziarul Financiar, the transaction marks the exit of investment fund MidEuropa Partners from its last remaining company in Romania. The acquisition is a strategic move by Sameday, aiming for market leadership, a position currently held by Fan Courier.
With a turnover of approximately €240 million, Sameday further strengthens its position in the industry. In 2024, Cargus reported revenues of about €113.5 million, an 11% increase over the previous year. However, its growth has been slower compared to other players, especially amid the courier market boom in recent years. Between 2019 and 2024, Cargus grew by 25%, while Sameday saw an impressive 620% increase in the same period.
The transaction, considered one of the most important in Romania in 2025, is subject to approval by the Competition Council. MidEuropa Partners acquired Urgent Cargus (later renamed Cargus) in 2018 from Abris Capital Partners, in a deal then estimated at €100–150 million. Sources cited by Ziarul Financiar suggest that the fund did not profit from the sale. Cargus currently has debts of around €80 million, according to Ministry of Finance data.
This acquisition follows shortly after MidEuropa Partners also sold the Regina Maria clinic network, thus marking the fund’s full withdrawal from investments in Romania.
